Making A Difference
Originally from Illinois, Trace Tyler moved to New Mexico for college, lived in San Diego, and ultimately returned home to attend law school. He graduated from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1993 and began his legal career in his hometown of Belvidere, Illinois as a prosecutor. Trace opened his law practice in 1995 and also served as an assistant public defender. In 1997, he relocated to Colorado and opened his own firm, focusing on estate planning, family, and criminal law. In 2008, Trace obtained his Masters-in-Law in taxation from the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law, where he focused on estate planning matters.
From 2001 to 2019, Trace shifted gears and worked for American Family Insurance in various roles, such as Advanced Life Insurance Consultant, agent, and district manager. He continued his education by obtaining various financial planning and insurance designations as well as a master’s in management from the American College. Trace continued to practice law on a part-time basis, focusing primarily on estate planning, family law, and business law. In 2019, he left American Family and began practicing full-time in Grand Junction. Trace also teaches business law at Colorado Mesa University, which is his way of “paying it forward”. In April of 2024, Trace merged his practice and joined Colorado Legal Group where he is looking forward to continue helping clients with their legal issues.
Trace and his wife, Chanda, have a blended family of five children, five grandchildren and two dogs. He enjoys traveling, attending concerts and football games, movies, music (especially Jimmy Buffett), and reading when he has time. He enjoys playing basketball, skiing, playing cards, and hanging out by a pool, the lake, or the beach. Trace also has an extensive Lego collection which has been a great way to relax from a long day at the office.
